Police RUOK Program

The City of Fortuna Police Department , as a free public service to Fortuna residents is offering any household in need, a daily computerized call to your home.

Once your name is entered into the computer, simply by answering your phone at the time you designated, will assure us of your well being. This call will be made once a day at a time designated by you and will be made everyday of the week or you can skip any day(s) of the week you desire.

If the phone call at the designated time is not answered, the computer will redial your number again in ten minutes and if necessary, in twenty minutes.  If the phone has not been answered on any of these three calls, the computer alerts the police dispatcher who calls a listed neighbor or friend to check on you.

If the neighbor or friend finds you need help, a police officer and/or medical help will be dispatched to your assistance.

To date this daily "R U O K" call has helped several residents who were in need of assistance.

Although this program was designed originally for those people who live alone, the program has been found to be beneficial to any household with a member or members that include Senior Citizens, people with a history of medical problems, or people whose mobility is impaired.

This program is also applicable for those who do not wish to impose on a neighbor to check on them daily.
